Broken Arrow hires Alton Lusk as associate director of athletics

Broken Arrow Public Schools has announced the hiring of Alton Lusk as associate director of athletics.

Lusk joins Broken Arrow from Owasso Public Schools, where he has served as principal of the 8th Grade Center since 2017.

After enjoying a prep career as a multisport athlete out of Guymon High School in the Oklahoma panhandle that led to all-state honors in football following his senior campaign, Lusk signed a scholarship with the University of Central Oklahoma.

Following his senior season at UCO, Lusk nabbed all-region honors and entered the 2000 NFL Draft as the 39th ranked receiver in the class before signing with the New York Giants. Following his playing career, Lusk began his coaching career at Guymon High School, Oklahoma Panhandle State University and a five-year stint on the Muskogee High School coaching staff. He became a principal at Muskogee Public Schools for four years before returning to his hometown of Guymon to serve as principal and athletic director at his alma mater. For the past five years, Lusk has served as principal of the Owasso 8th Grade Center.

“We are so excited to welcome Alton to our Broken Arrow family,” said Executive Director of Athletics Darren Melton. “His high character, work ethic, passion for interscholastic athletics and the development of young people, and his vast experience as a school administrator is sure to be another valuable resource for our students, coaches and entire community.”

As associate director of athletics, Lusk will be filling the previous position held by Darren Melton. He will assist the athletic department with event management, coach evaluations, NCAA eligibility requirements, required paperwork, among many other duties.

“Broken Arrow’s culture of being student-centered, relationship focused and providing the best interscholastic experience in the country is compelling,” said Lusk. “I look forward to working with coaches and student athletes in continuing that culture of excellence and cannot express how excited I am to be a Broken Arrow Tiger!”

Lusk earned bachelor’s degrees from the University of Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma Panhandle State University before completing his Master of Education in Sports Administration from East Central University. He and his wife of 19 years, Celena, are the proud parents of Payton (20, student athlete at the University of Central Oklahoma), Preston (14, 8th grade), and Price (13, 7th grade).
