Semester Test Exemption Practice 2023-24

As an incentive system for Broken Arrow High School students with excellent attendance and grades, students who satisfy the below requirements of the exemption policy are eligible to be exempt from semester tests. This test exemption practice only applies to Broken Arrow High School students, not students enrolled in other high school campuses (Early College High School, Freshman Academy, Options Academy, Vanguard Academy, Virtual Academy) within Broken Arrow Public Schools.

Semester test exemptions are based on the following conditions being met in specific classes for which the semester test(s) would be taken:

Grades

Absences

A student who is exempt may take the semester test to attempt to improve his/her semester grade even if he/she falls under the above conditions. Students are not eligible for exemption unless enrolled and in attendance for the full semester at BAHS. Homebound students or students who have been suspended are not eligible for exemption. Students placed in In-School Placement are eligible for exemption. Absences for the exemption policy are counted beginning the first day of the semester.

The following absences COUNT against semester exemptions:

  • D- Doctor’s Note
  • T-Truant
  • C- Call
  • COV (COVID 19)
  • DVA (Distance Learning Absent)
  • DVAP (Distance Learning Present)
  • ME-Medical Exemption (code specific for State Reporting)
  • OSS-Out of School Suspension
  • X-Tardy

The following absences DO NOT COUNT against semester exemptions:

  • E-School Activity
  • F-Field Trip
  • Q-Qualifying Event/Competition
  • I-Intervention (In School Placement)
  • S-Special
  • O-On Campus/Office
  • Ex--Exempt

Absences related to Drive Test/Examinations administered by the Oklahoma State Department of Public Safety will not count toward the semester absence total for the purposes of calculating semester exam exemption status (appropriate documentation required).

Foreign Exchange students are exempt from semester tests.

For information regarding semester test exemptions for second semester seniors ONLY, please refer to page 4 of the secondary student handbook.

All students have the opportunity to qualify every semester, and second semester. Seniors have a different criteria.
