PSAT 8 assessment for eighth graders to be held Oct. 26

All Sequoyah Middle School eighth graders will be administered the PSAT 8 assessment Thursday, Oct. 26. There will be an exam setup session during English classes on Thursday, Oct. 12. This assessment establishes a baseline for students as they enter high school and begin preparing for college and career readiness.

The PSAT 8 is now completely online. All students need to bring their fully-charged Chromebooks and their chargers.

Prior to attending the exam setup session on Oct. 12, students and parents are encouraged to review the PSAT 8/9 Student Guide for Digital Testing on the College Board website. The guide explains test protocol, gives an overview and tips of each section on the test, and offers sample questions for students to practice.

The PSAT 8 tests the same skills and knowledge as the PSAT/NMSQT that Broken Arrow students now take in high school; however, the delivery of these skills is presented in a way that makes sense to eighth graders.

This test measures what students are learning, shows them whether they are on track for college and informs them on the subjects in which they need improvement.

By taking this test in eighth grade, Broken Arrow students have time to tackle areas needing improvement long before they take the PSAT/NMSQT. Scoring well on the PSAT/NMSQT test gives them an added opportunity for National Merit Scholar awards and greater college selections.

The results from the PSAT 8 will also help teachers, students and parents prepare for state assessments in April and for high school course decisions.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Sequoyah's principal or test coordinator at 918-259-4370.
