Ernest Childers Middle School is named for Colonel Ernest Childers, a WWII Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. In 1985, Childers Middle School opened its doors as a "student centered" school. Emphasis on the student continues today through sixth grade teaming, innovative grant funded interdisciplinary projects, the performing arts, the visual arts, and athletics. Students and faculty members have achieved national recognition through National History Day, The American Express Travel Competition, Project Business, National Energy Education Development, The Transformations Project, Eco-Water Systems Art Contest, AAA Art Contest and the AAUW Eleanor Roosevelt Fellowship. Innovative projects emphasizing science, math and technology are nationally funded.
