Karyne Gates, Principal
Karyne Gates received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1976 and in 1990 she earned her Master’s degree in Education Administration from Northeastern State University. Mrs. Gates was hired by Broken Arrow Public school in 1977 and for the next thirteen years taught 1st grade, 2nd grade and Music at Haskell Elementary and Indian Springs Elementary. In 1990 she became a part time assistant principal and taught 3rd through 5th grades. During her 6 years as an assistant principal she served Southside, Spring Creek, Arrowhead, and Park Lane Elementary schools. When appointed as principal in 1996 she joined the Rhoades Elementary staff until opening Liberty Elementary in 2004.
Dana deFreese, Assistant Principal
Dana deFreese is a graduate of Tahlequah High School. She attended Oklahoma State University and Northeastern State University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and holds a Masters of Education in School Administration, both from Northeastern State University. Ms. deFreese came to Broken Arrow Public Schools in the summer of 2000 where she taught 7th and 8th grade math at Childers Middle School. In 2002 she became an Assistant Principal at Sequoyah Middle School. She then served as Assistant Principal at Oliver Middle School from 2006-2010 and at Haskell Middle School from 2010-2011 and Principal at Lynn Wood Elementary, 2012-2013.
Prior to coming to Broken Arrow, she taught 3rd grade and multiage 2nd and 3rd grade at Roosevelt Elementary in Tulsa, and 7th and 8th grade math at Jenks East Middle School.
