Karyne Gates, Principal
Karyne Gates received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1976 and in 1990 she earned her Master’s degree in Education Administration from Northeastern State University. Mrs. Gates was hired by Broken Arrow Public school in 1977 and for the next thirteen years taught 1st grade, 2nd grade and Music at Haskell Elementary and Indian Springs Elementary. In 1990 she became a part time assistant principal and taught 3rd through 5th grades. During her 6 years as an assistant principal she served Southside, Spring Creek, Arrowhead, and Park Lane Elementary schools. When appointed as principal in 1996 she joined the Rhoades Elementary staff until opening Liberty Elementary in 2004.
Mrs. Gates was recognized as Indian Springs Teacher of the Year and as one of the top ten district finalists in 1989. The Broken Arrow Board of Education honored her with the Golden Apple Award in 1999. She has also received Broken Arrow PTA’s Outstanding Principal and the Oklahoma PTA Outstanding Service Awards in 2009.
Elora Orr, Vice Principal
Elora Orr began her career with Broken Arrow Public Schools in 1998. Elora served students at Sequoyah Middle School teaching 7th Grade Math and Pre-Algebra for two years. She then moved to Park Lane Elementary where she taught 3rd grade for 5 years. Elora began serving the district as a School Counselor in 2005 and has worked with both middle school and elementary school students serving Sequoyah Middle School, Arrowhead Elementary and Country Lane Primary.
Elora earned a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Middle School Math and a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern State University. She then continued with Northeastern State University and obtained her Certificate in School Administration. Elora has completed extensive training in Great Expectations, Literacy First, Schools Attuned and Rachel’s Challenge. She has also coordinated several successful community outreach programs at the site level including Pasta for Pennies to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Food Drives for Broken Arrow Neighbors, and Food for Kids Backpack program.
Elora has been happily married for 13 years and has two children. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family and traveling.
