ArrowVision Digital Media Course Offerings

2020-21 Course Descriptions

Intro to ArrowVision (2 Semesters)

Grade Level: 9,10,11,12
Prerequisite: Online application.

Students in this course will develop an understanding of the past, present and future of journalism and digital media. They will explore career opportunities, college majors, and receive hands on experience in multiple media platforms. This class will teach students proper camera techniques, editing skills, lighting, audio, studio production, as well as field and “run and gun” techniques. Students will learn Apple’s Final Cut Pro X and Motion as well as Adobe Creative Cloud. Students will learn to write stories, conduct interviews and create video content using the 4A’s of ArrowVision. (Academics, Arts, Athletics, Activities.)


Digital Storytelling (2 Semesters)

Grade Level: 10,11, 12
Prerequisite: Intro to ArrowVision or instructor permission. Online application.

Learn how to create engaging, effective and innovative stories through videos and other digital media formats. Students will gain the skills needed to become a digital storyteller, creating content that tells the stories of Broken Arrow students and staff as well as exploring the stories of their community and state. This class will help students choose a pathway into what kind of storyteller they want to be and explore the different career opportunities in the fields of journalism, modern filmmaking, podcasting and more.

Students will work on crafting narrative stories that create emotional connections using the 4 A’s of ArrowVision, they will also develop a strong understanding of the 4 P’s of storytelling; people, places, plot and purpose. Students will learn advanced editing techniques using both Apple’s Final Cut Pro X and Adobe Premiere and use professional, state of the art equipment in the ArrowVision studio at BAHS.


Creative Media Production 1 (2 Semesters)

Grade Level: 10,11,12
Prerequisite: Intro to ArrowVision and Digital Storytelling or instructor permission. Online application.

Students in this course will be responsible for the monthly show, “The Pulse.” They will work together to create an entertaining, engaging and informative show telling the stories of BAHS students and staff through digital storytelling techniques learned in previous ArrowVision classes. Students will strive to be the heartbeat of BAHS, contributing creative digital media content such as podcasts, short videos, skits, promos and more to @BAHSPulse social media accounts bahspulse.com and YouTube. This course requires students to participate, promote and attend at least three after school events during each semester. This course will prepare students for a possible career in video content creation, social media, TV broadcasting, traditional journalism, filmmaking, and all digital media platforms.

Enrollment is limited to 16 students.


Creative Media Production 2 (2 Semesters)

Grade Level: 10,11,12
Prerequisite: Intro to ArrowVision, Digital Storytelling, CMP1 or instructor permission. Online application.

Students in this course will work together to produce Broken Arrow High School’s official weekly morning show, Good Morning Broken Arrow. (GMBA)

Learn how to collaborate and produce an entertaining, engaging and informative weekly show as well as other digital media content for all ArrowVision and BAHSPulse social platforms. Teamwork, script writing, pre-production and advanced post production will be essential to the experience of this class. In addition to GMBA this class will be responsible for the new weekly BAHSPulse podcast and other creative forms of media creation and communication to keep students in the know at BAHS. This course will further prepare students for a possible career in video content creation, social media, TV broadcasting, traditional journalism, filmmaking, and all digital media platforms.

Enrollment is limited to 16 students.


Sports Digital Media and Marketing (2 Semesters)

Grade Level: 10,11,12
Prerequisite: Intro to ArrowVision. Online application.

Sports Digital Media and Marketing will give students valuable hands-on experience as they explore the many career opportunities in this field. It will present students with the opportunity to be a part of ArrowVision’s live event production in a variety of roles, as well as work with BAHS athletic teams by becoming their sports information coordinator. Stay involved and be a part of the team in a new and exciting way, learn about the world of athletics digital media and sports information. Be the pulse of a team by handling their social media accounts, traveling with the team to do video, photo and more.

Students also have the opportunity to learn play-by-play and color commentary, assist in the production of studio sports shows, help promote Tiger athletic events and more. Students in this class will work with ArrowVision and the BA athletic department in developing ways to promote teams and the Tiger brand through digital media and fundamental marketing and promotional techniques. This class will enhance multiple skill sets in the arena of the highly popular field of sports media and marketing.

Filmmaking and Modern Media Production (2 Semesters)

Grade Level: 10,11,12
Prerequisite: Intro to ArrowVision. Online application.

In Filmmaking and Modern Media Production, students will develop an understanding of film history and evolution into today’s world of filmmaking. This class will learn about both narrative and documentary filmmaking and create their own short films and other projects such as music videos, school promos, vlogs, corporate commercial projects and more. A new kind of filmmaker has emerged in the world of YouTube and social media driven content and with it many new career opportunities which will be explored in this class. Our students will create for both the BAHSPulse YouTube channel, bahspulse.com and other BA social media accounts. Students will enter their content in local and national high school film festivals. This class will give students an understanding of critical analysis of film, shot composition, story structure, pacing, editing, and more. Students will work together to critique and help improve each others films to get them ready to submit to student film festivals. This hands-on class will teach students proper camera techniques, editing skills, lighting, audio, studio production, as well as field and “run and gun” techniques. Students will learn Apple’s Final Cut Pro X and Motion as well as the Adobe Creative Cloud suite.

Convergence Journalism (2 Semesters)

Grade Level: 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite:  Online application.

The world of journalism is constantly changing as new methods of creating and consuming digital media content are introduced. This class is for students who want to learn and work with the latest technology and understand how to deliver the news and communicate professionally. This course offers the student experience in various types of journalistic writing, editing, layout design, social media and website management, and digital media content creation. Students in this course will be in charge of the day to day operations of www.bahspulse.com, BAHSPulse YouTube channel and the @BAHSPulse social media accounts by creating a content calendar and using social media management software. Students will also have the opportunity to create original content for the site, working with writers to provide accompanying video features and more. Students will be responsible for the creation of a new BAHS Magazine by using InDesign and other Adobe Creative Cloud software. Hands-on experience and state of the art equipment will prepare students for many possible opportunities in college and careers in the various fields of convergence journalism and digital media.


Yearbook 1- 4 (2 Semesters)

Grade Level: 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite: Online application.

Be a part of the award-winning Arrow Life BAHS Yearbook staff. This course offers the student experience in various types of journalistic writing, copy editing, photography and layout design. Students will work in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, as well as gain hands-on photography experience with state of the art equipment at campus events. Students are completely responsible for publication and marketing of the yearbook. The students may be required to work outside of the school day.


Yearbook Editorial Leadership (2 Semesters)

Grade Level: 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Teacher approval, current enrollment in additional yearbook course required. Online application.

Students in this course have been chosen as the editorial board for yearbook publication. Editors will focus on leadership skills needed to appropriately manage and motivate a staff of students to produce the yearbook. Editors will set goals for the staff, organize publication production, manage deadline requirements, and make editorial design decisions. Editors will oversee writing, photography, design, and production of the current yearbook by the yearbook staff. These students may be required to work outside of the school day.
