ECC, Elementary and Middle School Open House to be held in August and September

“Open House” is a valuable opportunity for early child hood, elementary and middle school parents to learn important information about their child's classroom experience.

Parent engagement is important to everything we do here at Broken Arrow. Research shows that if parents are engaged in their child’s education, student achievement is sure to follow. We truly hope our parents take the time to go back to school for a night and learn all about what their child’s site has to offer.

During “Open House,” teachers will share their daily and weekly schedule, their teaching style and methodology, how they grade and their classroom requirements.

Many teachers ask parents to sit in their child’s seat, which gives parents the opportunity to see the classroom from their child’s point of view. It also gives teachers the chance to mentally match parents with students. There will also be many opportunities to sign up for volunteer activities, either for schoolwide programs or in the classroom.

In addition, each elementary site will have a PTA meeting that evening in conjunction with Open House, so that parents can easily get involved.

Parent Night Schedule

Tuesday, Aug. 18

  • All Middle Schools and Sequoyah 8th Grade Academy

  • Time: 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 27

  • Country Lane Primary

    • Kindergarten: 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

    • PTA Meeting: 6:35 p.m. - 7:05 p.m.

    • Grades 1 & 2: 7:10 p.m. - 7:40 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 1

  • All Early Childhood Centers

  • Time: 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 3

  • All Elementary Sites (except Country Lane Primary)

    • Grades PreK – 2: 6 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

    • PTA Meeting: 6:35 p.m. - 7:05 p.m.

    • Grades 3 - 5: 7:10 p.m. - 7:40 p.m.

Below are some basic questions parents may want to ask during Open House:

  • What is the policy on late work and make-up work? How does it affect the student’s grade?

  • How do absences affect the grade?

  • How can I check on my son’s or daughter’s progress in school? Do you give weekly progress reports?

  • How can I find out about my student’s homework?

  • Should I call or email the teacher?

  • Are there field trips?

  • How can I check on detentions or behavior issues?

  • Is there anything you’d like me to do?

  • May I volunteer in the classroom?
