Stars on Stage

A performance and learning opportunity for students with developmental disabilities.

Stars on Stage is a program using theatre as a way to collaborate in mixed-ability groups, acting as a bridge between children with special needs and others in their peer group to put on a fully staged theatre production. Everyone deserves access to the arts. We work to provide an environment that enables students with developmental disabilities and student peers to work together to develop trust and friendships. Together we create a community, brought together via the arts, to foster a culture of acceptance that lasts a lifetime.

In three amazing seasons, we've brought Seussical Kids, The Lion King Kids and The Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition to life with these extraordinary kids - and the excitement continues!

Who can participate? The program is seeking both young artists with disabilities and peer mentors.

Star Artists with Disabilities: students with disabilities grades 3-12 or who have graduated from Broken Arrow Public Schools up to the age of 22. There are no restrictions based on the level of cognitive ability, restriction of mobility, or lack of communication skills. Artists and their paired mentors need only a desire for artistic expression and a commitment to exploring their creative abilities.

Star Peers: dedicated youth without disabilities committed to learning and helping through collaboration. Must be dedicated to the process and have a bottomless capacity for adventure and fun.

  • Get ready to shine! Stay tuned for the upcoming registration announcement for Star Artists and Star Peers!

Want to Volunteer? We are looking for volunteers to help with the check-in/checkout table for rehearsals and snack coordinators to help backstage during performances, makeup, costumes, props, stage crew, etc. Let us know if you want to serve in any of these capacities.

  • Prepare to lend a hand! Stay tuned for Volunteers registration updates!
