Sexually Transmitted Disease Awareness and Prevention

Because Broken Arrow Public Schools believes that the teaching of human growth and development concepts and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases is primarily the responsibility of parents, we have designed a health education program guided by state statute and board policy which provides students with developmentally-appropriate, factual information that can serve as a foundation for further discussion with parents at home.

The chart below outlines the concepts taught at specific grade levels, indicates which students participate, and describes how students are grouped for each presentation. Parents who wish to preview the growth/development and awareness/prevention presentations can click on the links provided. In addition, parents are always welcome to contact the nurse assigned to their student’s school with any questions.

Families will be notified of upcoming growth and development and awareness and prevention presentations scheduled for their student’s grade level in advance via the district’s parent messaging system. Parents may opt their student out of the presentation by emailing the school nurse prior to the scheduled date.
