Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps
Broken Arrow Public Schools offers students in grades 9-12 the opportunity to enroll in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program (JRTOC), an elective course promoting leadership, personal responsibility, service to the nation and community as well as instruction in air and space topics.
The curriculum is composed of aerospace science, leadership education, and physical fitness. In addition to classroom instruction, students are able to participate in field trips to military bases, aerospace facilities and aviation museums.

JROTC Program Facts
- The focus of JROTC is to educate high school students in leadership roles and motivate them to become better citizens.
- Students enrolling in JROTC are not joining the military. JROTC is a military centered class focused on leadership and citizenship.
- There is no military commitment for any student enrolling in JROTC.
- We are not recruiters. Less than 4% of all JROTC students join the military.
- Students choosing to join the military enter the service with an accelerated promotion which means an immediate pay raise.
Competitive Scholarship Programs
Students can compete for two scholarship programs.
- J100 Program: 100 cadets across the country are selected for a 4-yr JROTC scholarship to select colleges
- JROTC Flight Academy: Private Pilot Scholarship program, is an approximately 8-week summer aviation training program, conducted at partnering universities nationwide. Upon successful completion, students are awarded a Private Pilot’s Certification.
Core Program Tenants
- Academics: Curriculum can include Aerospace History, Science of Flight, Space Leadership fundamentals, life skills, and principles of management.
- Drill: How to march, perform color guards, and command the flight. Drill teaches discipline, develops teamwork, improves attention to detail
- Physical Fitness: Students participate in physical fitness days on Friday.
- Uniform: Cadets wear either the ABU or blue service uniform once a week. Cadets will maintain Air Force standards when wearing the uniform.
Cadet Organization
JROTC is a cadet run program with senior cadets taking on increased responsibility for managing and running cadet operations and extra curricular activities.
Special Teams and Organizations
Broken Arrow AFJROTC offers a wide variety of Special teams and organizations.
- Academic Challenge Team - this team competes against other JROTC units around the country in timed academic knowledge bowl
- Awareness Presentation Team - This group of cadets goes to schools within Broken Arrow Public Schools, talking with middle school students about JROTC and teaching/mentoring to younger students.
- Competitive Drill Team - This organization is comprised of four teams; the Armed drill team, Unarmed drill team, Exhibition drill team, and the Color Guard. These teams compete in drill competitions in a four-state area. Broken Arrow drill teams have won more a dozen trophies in our 5-year existence.
- Honor Guard - Members work hard presenting the National Colors at school and community events throughout Green Country. They also building a "saber detail" for events special ceremonies.
- Raider Challenge Team - This team competes against Army JROTC units in Raider competitions in the four-state area.
- Marksmanship Team - Students learn firearm safety and how to shoot air rifles in the standing, kneeling, and prone positions. Students participate in competitions in the four-state area.

Special Activities
Broken Arrow JROTC is always busy doing fun things with and for our community. Examples:
- Community Service - Cadets perform 1500 hours of community service each year
- Military Ball - This is a military version of prom. It is a formal dinner and dance for cadets and friends of the corps.
- Tiger Drill Meet - Drill and Physical Fitness competition open to schools in Oklahoma and surrounding states. This event is entirely planned and executed by Broken Arrow cadets.
- Bataan Memorial March - Completing the annual 14 mile Bataan Memorial March at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma. It commemorates the "Bataan Death March" of World War II.
- Push-up Squad - Cadets perform push-ups in the end zone at football games
Summer Leadership Opportunities
- Summer Leadership School: A one week leadership lab in Texas or Oklahoma that takes place in June of every year. It is open to any cadet who has completed at least one year of JROTC.
- First Year Cadet Camp: A one week camp during the second week in August open to all new cadets. The camp is run by upper class cadets and focuses on teaches the new cadets about JROTC and building confidence.

The Broken Arrow Public Schools JROTC instructors are highly qualified and decorated retired members of the United States Air Force with years of active service. BAPS's instructors served with distinction and have been recognized repeatedly as AFJROTC Outstanding Instructors since forming the Broken Arrow program in August 2015. Their leadership has helped this unit to be recognized as among the best in the nation earning the distinguished unit award four consecutive times.
