Teresa Bowker, the District’s Director of Early Childhood and Parent Engagement has been instrumental in bringing this training to BA parents.

“Part of my responsibilities are having parent engagement nights or getting parents more involved with their child’s school,” Bowker said. “So, this is the first event I will be hosting, and it is for parents of any age and we would specifically like to capture parents of 3rd grade and above as that seems about the time students are getting a phone. However, all students from six months to a year old seem to be watching shows on YouTube or a technology site, so really, this training is for all parents.”

Parents who attend the training will get a free meal, and will walk away with useful knowledge on setting boundaries, managing technology, how a child’s brain develops, how to help kids navigate social media, recognizing signs of bullying, risky behaviors, and understanding the ‘why’ behind their child’s behaviors.

“Really, the goal with this training is just to help parents expand their parenting toolkit and develop better ways of effectively communicating with their students,” Bowker said.
