Broken Arrow Public Schools Foundation awards nearly $40,000 in classroom grants to teachers
The Broken Arrow Public Schools Foundation recently awarded classroom grants worth $39,989 to 54 teachers at 18 school sites across the district.
All Broken Arrow teachers were eligible to apply for grants to help enhance educational opportunities for their students. Winning projects were determined by a committee of BAPS Foundation members based on the number of students impacted and their uniqueness.
"It’s amazing to be able to get into the classroom and provide teachers with additional funds to enhance the educational experience in inventive and progressive projects," said Frankie Catlett, BAPS foundation president. "Thanks to the community in helping us through funding to be able to help these teachers. It's truly a rewarding experience to end a successful year for the Foundation."
Grant Highlights
This year some of the grants funded included virtual goggles for experiencing the world beyond the elementary classroom; earthquake modeling in a middle school classroom, and art equipment at the Freshman Academy.
At Broken Arrow High School, a soil-less garden and a "chicken project" which will allow students the opportunity for not only animal husbandry, but experiences with business skills.
“Our district is incredibly fortunate to have such strong support from the BAPS Foundation,” said Superintendent Dr. Janet Vinson. “I love seeing the different types of projects that were funded this year and cannot wait to see how they change the lives of our students.”
