Distance Learning Expectations for students, staff and administration
Students:
- Students are expected to log in to Canvas/online activities daily.
- Students are expected to participate in online activities both in written and verbal form.
- Students are expected to turn in assignments on time.
- Students are expected to demonstrate appropriate school behavior, to include appropriate attire.
Teachers:
- Teachers need to stay on a regular school day schedule, checking email regularly and being available to students, colleagues, administration and parents throughout the day. Returning phone calls as necessary and appropriate.
- Teachers are expected to create and follow lesson plans and stay on track of teaching.
- Teachers should teach new standards according to sequence of instruction.
- Teachers should be prepared for daily lessons and give immediate feedback as if in a regular classroom setting during direct instruction.
- Teachers should provide timely feedback for any student questions/discussion daily that occur outside the time of direct instruction.
- Teachers should monitor student learning, provide feedback and assign grades on daily work and assessments, and keep grades up to date.
- Teachers should communicate via Canvas, email, phone at least one time a week per Distance Learning (for long term situations).
- Teachers should follow the instructional Distance Learning from master schedule.
- Teachers must remain confidential in regards to students or families that have been exposed or diagnosed with COVID-19. The district will handle all communication in this matter.
Staff:
- Staff members not directly teaching should be prepared to perform regular duties as appropriate.
- Staff members may be asked to assist with other aspects of the school operation.
- Staff members should be available to work their regularly scheduled hours and should be accessible to supervisor.
- Staff members should complete daily tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Staff members need to check their email daily and regularly for updates and return phone calls as appropriate.
Administrators:
- Administrators should plan on reporting to their school site unless the entire site is closed.
- Administrators should work with their Executive Director in determining the need for Distance Learning and communicate with the parent(s) directly.
- Administrators should monitor the number of suspected and confirmed COVID19 cases and communicate regularly with the Executive Director of Elementary/Secondary and Executive Director of Student Services.
- Administrators should maintain a list of those students/staff who need devices for Distance learning and help distribute devices ahead of time when possible, or be present to distribute as needed (with the support of office staff).
- Administrators should monitor instruction in classrooms using Distance Learning and ensure new skills are being taught, lessons are interactive and engaging and the teacher is providing support to student learning.
- Administrators should provide teachers support with any student or parent concerns.
- Administrators should monitor student attendance and progress and follow up with students who may need support.
- Administrators should identify “back-up” teachers in case a teacher gets COVID19.
- Principals should create a Distance Learning Instructional master schedule.
- Principals need to verify which students need Chromebooks/Hotspots at the beginning of the year in preparation for distance learning.
