Broken Arrow Public Schools to honor its seniors with virtual celebration May 19

Rescheduled graduation ceremony to be held June 30 if coronavirus bans are lifted

oin us as we honor the Class of 2020 with a virtual celebration at home together. It will premiere LIVE on the district’s Facebook page and YouTube channel at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, and will be available for viewing after this date on both channels.

The physical graduation ceremony is still rescheduled for June 30 and is contingent on whether all COVID-19 bans are lifted from the state and city.

“We are so incredibly proud of our students for their tenacity and hard work throughout the past 12 years, and I’m especially grateful for their positive attitudes during such a difficult time,” Superintendent Dr. Janet Dunlop said. “We are determined to honor and celebrate our seniors on the night in which they were originally scheduled to walk across the graduation stage, and I know this virtual celebration will do just that.”

Produced by the ArrowVision video team and hosted by senior students David Grant and Tori Chin, the 60 minute program will feature speeches by Superintendent Dr. Janet Dunlop, Broken Arrow High School Principal Liz Burns, STUCO President Haylee Floyd, Senior Class President Peyton Dayer and Representative from the Class of Distinction Denali Huffman. It will also give a shoutout to every high school senior and will feature video content typically showcased during graduation, including senior superlatives, the senior song and much more.

“Though we all hope that restrictions will be lifted in time for us to hold our traditional physical commencement ceremony at the BOK on June 30, this virtual format allows us to celebrate the accomplishments of our incredible senior class while marking the end of their very eventful high school journey,” Principal Liz Burns said. “Even though we are separately scattered throughout our larger community, this virtual experience offers an opportunity to bring all of us together in a spirit of celebration and hope for the future.”

SENIORS: Put on your cap and gown, take a selfie with your family during the program and use the hashtag #BA20AtHomeTogether.
