Rescheduled graduation date set for June 30 at BOK Center

In an effort to properly celebrate the Class of 2020, Broken Arrow Public Schools is announcing that graduation has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, at the BOK Center. This date is contingent on whether all COVID-19 bans are lifted from the state and city by June 15.

“I know our seniors are heartbroken over the recent events that have impacted their last few months at Broken Arrow High School,” Superintendent Dr. Janet Dunlop said. “Please know we are doing everything in our power to end their senior year in a way that honors their hard work. Although we can’t promise that bans will be lifted by then, we are hopeful that we will get to see our graduates walk across the graduation stage.”

All Oklahoma school districts were recently required to shut their classroom doors and cancel events, including graduation, for the remainder of the spring semester due to the coronavirus global pandemic. Once the originally scheduled graduation date was canceled, district administrators began looking into various ways to applaud Broken Arrow seniors. The BOK Center graciously approved a new date for the Class of 2020.

“Graduation is such a special occasion for our seniors and their families, and we are thrilled they will most likely be able to celebrate this milestone with their classmates and our high school faculty,” Broken Arrow High School Principal Liz Burns said.

More information regarding graduation will be provided to seniors and families in the coming months.
