Sophomores required to participate in Post-Secondary Exploration Day on April 17 (new date)

Instead of attending classes on the Broken Arrow High School (BAHS) campus Tuesday, April 17, sophomores are required to begin exploring post-secondary opportunities.

Sophomore students must complete one of the following and must document their participation.

  • Visit a college or university
  • Visit a military recruiting center
  • Attend a site tour at TulsaTech (TulsaTech will not be offering site tours on Tuesday, April 17, but a site tour can be scheduled on Thursday, April 19, from 3 - 4 p.m. to receive credit.)
  • Visit a business and participate in job-shadowing

“At Broken Arrow High School, we strongly believe in providing students with the opportunity for early and consistent college and career exploration,” said Tom Hoeffner, BAHS sophomore grade level principal. “We know that when students find their areas of interest, it will help them select future courses that will allow them to become more engaged in their own learning. We are extremely excited to offer this opportunity to the Class of 2020.”

Documentation for Post-Secondary Exploration Day includes a permission form and a letterhead from the college, university, military recruiting office or TulsaTech visit. Should students choose to job shadow, documentation can include a business card or letterhead along with the permission form. Documentation must be completed by Friday, April 20, to the sophomore grade level office so the student will not be counted as truant for April 17.

Sophomore students will need to schedule their own exploration activity. Transportation is also the responsibility of the student. Broken Arrow Public Schools will not provide transportation outside of the regularly scheduled routes.

Students who do not schedule a visit or find a location to job shadow will need to report to the high school. These students will be provided with college and career exploration activities through our Naviance system.

If you have any questions regarding Post-Secondary Exploration Day or if you need clarification on whether an activity will be approved, please contact Broken Arrow High School at 918-259-4310.
