What is an SRO Police Officer Liaison?
The Broken Arrow School Resource Officer program incorporates a multifaceted strategy of enforcement, education, and counseling in hopes of reducing criminal activity on school campus's, reducing student suspensions for violent incidents, and contribute to the quality of a safe learning and teaching environment. Student Resource Officers in Broken Arrow perform the following functions:
*Respond to schools calls for service.
*Conduct school site visits to promote interaction between officers and youth.
*Conduct presentations to students and other groups on various subjects.
*Provide mentoring to students having discipline issues.

How do I report and absence?

How do I report a possible danger at school?
To report or warn of possible danger at a school, you may call the Broken Arrow Police Department's Anonymous Tip Line at 918.259.1111.
What is the school policy on visitors?
To ensure student and staff safety, all visitors must report to the main office. They will contact the classroom teacher. No student will be released directly from the classroom. Parents must sign their child in and out during regular school hours.

What are the school's disaster drill procedures?
Since the safety of all of our children is our primary concern, state law mandates periodic practice fire and tornado drills as well as drills for a lock down situation should one arise. In the event of a lock down situation, no one will be allowed into the building until the lock down is cancelled.
What is the school's policy on tardiness?
School begins promptly at 8:55 a.m. If your child arrives after that time, he/she is considered tardy and must check in at the attendance office before reporting to class. Being on time is a vital of part of your child's success at school.
What is the morning routine for classrooms?
Teachers greet students in a positive manner as they enter the classroom each morning and help them get settled in order to insure a successful day. Therefore, this is not an appropriate time to conference with the teacher.
How do I contact my child's teacher?
Call the main office, 918.259.4490 and leave a message for the teacher. Teachers will return your call as soon as possible, although it is sometimes difficult to do so during class time. After regular work hours, you may call the same number and leave a voicemail.
How do I notify my child of a change in transportation plans?
If you need to let your child know of a change of after school plans, please call the office before 3:00 p.m. The Transportation Department prohibits students from riding on buses other than their regular one. Also, students must get off at their assigned bus stops. If you have any questions regarding bus issues, please call the Transportation Department at 918.259.4550.
What are the procedures if my child should become ill at school?
The school will contact a parent and ask them to pick up their child if he/she runs a temperature over 100 degrees. Children need to be free of a fever for 24 hours before returning to school. Please do not send your child to school if he/she is sick.
Can I send balloons or flowers to my child at school?
Yes, however they will not receive them until the end of the school day. Flowers and balloons are not permitted in the classrooms or on the buses. We suggest having these items delivered to your home.
Can I bring treats to celebrate my child's birthday?
You need to check with your child's teacher to see what the policy is for their classroom. Classroom birthday parties, however, are prohibited.
Can my child hand out invitations for a party at school?
Invitations may not be handed out during school hours unless every child in the classroom receives on. Otherwise, students may pass out invitations outside of school. It is suggested that you mail or contact parents if you wish to send invitations.
What parties can I expect my child to participate in throughout the school year?
There will be a Winter Party in December, a Valentine's Party in February and Accelerated Reader parties every nine weeks for those students who qualify. Your child will be notified about the date and whether or not they have qualified for the AR parties by their teachers. Fifth graders will also have a special day to celebrate their going onto Middle School.
What is the school's policy on field trips/permission slips?
A permission slip must be signed and returned or the student will NOT be permitted to go on the trip. No last minute phone calls to parents will be allowed.
How do I know what is going on at school?
You and your child should go through the contents of his/her backpack nightly in order to check for newsletter, flyers, etc. This is also a good time to go over any papers that may have been graded and sent home. Please check for any homework that needs to be completed. Also, check on our website for news and calendar updates.
What student organizations are at Vandever?
Student Council- Vandever's Student Council consists of four officers and 2 representatives from each 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classroom. The Student Council teacher advisor is Ms. Kara Donathan. Our Student Council has periodic meetings to come up with ideas to make our school a better place. They also coordinate food drives and school clean up days. One of the highlights of being a part of the Vandever Student Council is the opportunity to greet and serve lunch to our Grandparents and Veterans in November.
Safety Patrol - Vandever's Safety Patrol is made up of responsible fifth grade students. Mr. Brown is our Safety Patrol Sponsor. The primary aims of the patrol are:
To protect children from automobile accidents
To help children develop sound habits in using the streets
To foster qualities of leadership and good citizenship in patrol members
To instill the value of commitment
Members are selected for their courtesy, dependability, interest in their job, leadership, and attitude toward others.
