Learning Disabilities

Broken Arrow Schools offers a wide array of programs for students diagnosed as having a "specific learning disability." Programs in LD classes are offered in elementary, middle school, and high school, with a continuum of services in a variety of settings. These include consultation, part time placement and full time placement programs.

Based upon individually administered assessment and other evaluation information reviewed, a severe discrepancy between achievement and intellectual ability must exist in one or more areas in order for a student to meet criteria under Specific Learning Disabilities. These areas include oral expression, listening comprehension, written expression, basic reading skills, reading comprehension, math calculation, or math reasoning.

Students in the Learning Disabilities program are provided individualized instruction to meet their learning needs. General curriculum along with specialized curriculum is utilized in the different subject areas. Each student in the Learning Disabilities program, as well as other Special Education programs, have developed for them an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) which outlines the educational plan to be followed, year to year.
