Long-Term Substitues
Only certified teachers are placed in long-term assignments (those exceeding 20 consecutive days in length). Assignments necessitating a long-term substitute will be staffed directly by the Substitute Coordinator.
An uncertified substitute will not be assigned to a classroom for a length of time in excess of 20 days.
Should 20 days pass and the regular classroom teacher by unable to return, the Substitute Coordinator will notify the HRD. Every attempt will be made to staff the assignment with a certified substitute, i.e., reassignment of a certified substitute presently in another short-term assignment, recruitment of a certified retiree, assistance from a neighboring district, etc.
Should the district be unable to assign a certified substitute to a long-term assignment (greater than 20 consecutive days), the HRD will notify the principal at the affected site and a coordinated communication to parents will be prepared and disseminated to students impacted.
