BAPS Football Program
Broken Arrow Public Schools (BAPS) football program (class 6A) is open to football athletes starting in eighth grade. To participate in the football program, the athlete needs to be academically eligible and in good standing with their school. There are NO tryouts to participate in the BAPS football program.
David Alexander is the Head Football Coach and Director of Football Operations for Broken Arrow High School. Coach Alexander brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Broken Arrow Football Program. He graduated from Broken Arrow High School in 1982. He went on from there to the play football for The University of Tulsa from 1982 through 1986. After graduating in the Spring of 1987 he was drafted by The National Football League. He was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 5th round. He played for the Eagles for 8 years and then moved to the New York Jets for an additional 2 years. For the years of 2005 through 2006 Coach Alexander served as the head coach for the AFL football team The Tulsa Talons. He moved on to Jenks to serve as offensive line coach from 2006 through 2012. In 2013 he left Jenks to return to his alma mater, Broken Arrow, to serve as running backs coach. He is has been married to his wife Kathy for 27 years and they have 3 children Jake (23), Kyle (20), and Cassity (17). He is also a member of the Broken Arrow Athletic Hall of Fame and Tulsa University Athletic Hall of Fame.
For high school students, ninth grade to 12th grade, their sixth hour class will be their football class. Practice will start during this class and will finish on average by 5:00 p.m. each day of the school week.
Football practices will start August 12 before the beginning of start of school. These practices will be held at the high school stadium.
For eighth grade students, practices will be announced.
There are a total of seven teams. They consist of the following:
3 – 8th grade teams
2 – 9th grade teams
Junior Varsity (JV) team
