Welcome to the Technology Department

Overview:

The vision of our technology team is to make BAPS your choice destination for education by creating an infrastructure to support and enhance the capabilities technology provides to students, staff members, and the community.  We strive to facilitate learning and creativity through innovative technology, providing students with access to modern state of the art equipment that enhances their ability to succeed in tomorrow’s world, and promote substantial increases in student achievement motivated by interactive technology resources. The IT staff members ensure that every project or task that we engage in supports Broken Arrow Public Schools in providing superior customer service, support, training, and innovative research and implementation of the needs of all of our student, staff, department, and community stakeholders.

Technology services supports close to 17,000 students, over 2,000 district staff, 6,000 computers in a mixed platform environment, over 100 servers split between domain controllers and application, data, web and print servers. Our fiber optic network serves all 30 district sites spanning over more than 115 square miles.

Areas of Primary Focus:

  • Technology has implemented innovative strategies to deliver specialized and/or rigorous courses and curricula through our smart board initiative and we are in the process of piloting a fully interactive net book Google classroom.
  • A full scale replacement/refurbishing plan for district desktop computers and servers is in full swing.
  • Wireless network access is being installed in all schools in areas that increase student learning.
  • Technology has built our own data center, housing all of our servers and data storage in a secure, self-contained environment.
  • Technology has implemented ParentCONNECTxp, an online parental portal to student progress and resources.
  • Technology is on the leading edge in implementing 21st century technology in the building of new schools and the renovations to existing sites.
  • Technology is preparing for the Core Curriculum initiatives requiring student access to online testing and research capabilities.
  • Technology has incorporated Mizuni as its data warehouse manager, allowing for data extracts, communication between district software and the WAVE (Oklahoma’s State Reporting System), and district data analysis capabilities.

We are always partnering with our schools and other departments to meet technology needs. Some of our partnered initiatives include:

• Implementing our district website hosted by SOCS
• Implementing ParentCONNECTxp, our online parent portal
• Implementing PowerTeacher Gradebook
• Implementing EMS, a facility software management system
• Implementing upgrades to Chancery SMS with Academic Planner
• Implementing My Literacy First for increasing reading/comprehensive skills
• Implementing Versatrans, transportation management software
• Implementing E2020, the districts online virtual school
• Implementing LanDesk and Active Directory Services

and many more technology based initiatives…

Data Center:

Technology is most proud of our district data center.  The data center is a level 3 structure, meaning it can withstand up to an F4 tornado and beyond and is independently powered by generators in case of a power outage.  It has its own fire detection system and dry chemical extinguishing system.  It also has its own independent cooling system to maintain a constant temperature to offset the intense heat produced by the hardware. Technology also has a data disaster recovery site housed at Country Lane Intermediate School with 30,000 GB of storage where all district data is replicated as a back up in case of the destruction of the data center at the Performing Arts Center.  The data center has been built for the ability to expand to meet the demands of future technology.  Gradually, all district servers will be moved in from our sites to this new facility.
