New Opportunity for Academy Students
Broken Arrow Academy has begun a program which provides students with additional opportunity for teacher guided enrichment in classes in which they may be struggling. It is called OPS, Opportunity for Pupil Success.
The Academy has tweaked their schedule to allow for built in enrichment time, OPS, within the framework of the existing day, increasing their school day by five minutes. OPS periods are held during Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Grades will be checked every Monday. Students who are carrying a 'D' or an 'F' in a class will be required to attend the OPS session, for that class, for the week .Students not participating will be dismissed at 2:00pm on Fridays only.
OPS are not a 'make-up day'. It is a teacher guided period which allows for further instruction and application of the concepts and objectives that the student may be struggling with. Students are allowed to volunteer to attend an OPS session or teachers may recommend students that they feel need additional instruction time, even though they are carrying a 'C' or above. The goal is to maximize student achievement, proficiency of materials and raise their GPA’s in general.
In order to encourage the students to make the most of their regular class periods and staying off of the 'D and F' list the Academy staff is offering a number of clubs that those students not needing additional instruction time may participate in. The clubs range in topics from learning how to play chess, to photography, make and take art projects, financial literacy as well as different forms of physical exercise and history. These club topics will rotate throughout the semester allowing for students to experience several of their favorite topics.
It parents, guardians or students have any question about the OPS program or our early dismissal policy, please feel free to contact the office.
