Mandated Closure by the State: Message from Superintendent Dr. Janet Dunlop

Over the last few weeks, it’s become clear that our community is facing an unprecedented challenge. As always, the health and well-being of our staff and students remains our top priority. Due to the growing concern regarding the spread of the coronavirus in Oklahoma, Broken Arrow Public Schools has been informed by the Oklahoma State Department of Education that there will be a mandatory statewide school closure for two weeks, beginning on Monday, March 23, with students and staff returning no earlier than April 6.

Effective immediately, all buildings, athletics and fine arts facilities, and district offices will be locked and cannot be entered for any reason. ALL employees, including 12-month, will NOT report to work. Employees should continue to check their emails for up-to-date information. Those employees who are needed to provide a safe reentry for students will be contacted by their immediate supervisor.

Because this is a mandated closure by the state of Oklahoma, Broken Arrow schools will not go virtual, and district leadership will await the decision from the Oklahoma State Department of Education on whether students will make up these days at the end of the year.

In addition, Broken Arrow Public Schools is providing free grab-and-go meals for students 18 and under beginning March 23 until April 3 at the following locations:

  • Central Park - 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • In front of Sequoyah Middle School - noon to 12:30 p.m.
  • Indian Springs Apartments - 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
My leadership team and I are actively working with the Tulsa Health Department, the Oklahoma Department of Education and Oklahoma State Department of Health, and we will continue to communicate changes as they occur. Thank you for your support in helping to keep our students and staff healthy and safe.

Sincerely,

Janet Dunlop
Superintendent of Schools
