The purpose of Aspen Creek's library/media center is to provide a program that assists students in developing an awareness of the knowledge that is available and the skills needed to acquire and process this information. This program will also promote an appreciation of literature and the life-long enjoyment of reading.
Hours
Monday - Friday: 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Checkout Policy
Students may check out books for one week. They may renew their book for an additional week if they need more time to finish reading the book. The number of books they may check out varies by grade level:
Kindergarten and 1st Grade: May check out one book.
Grades 2 - 5: May check out two books
If students need additional books for research and/or reading pleasure, arrangements may be made with the media specialist.
Overdue Policy
Books are due back in one week. There are no fines for overdue books but books that are permanently lost or damaged must be paid for as soon as possible. If a lost book is paid for and then found before the end of the school year the students may either keep the book or return it for a full refund.

Author Information
The internet has become a great source of information about a great many children's writers and illustrators. The Authors & Illustrators website includes authors' personal websites and websites maintained by fans, scholars, and readers.
If you don't find an author here, you might want to try some other internet sources of information about authors and books. Bear in mind though that if you can't find anything about the author online, you may still be able to find something in a library.
Oklahoma Sequoyah Book Award Program
The Sequoyah Book Award Program encourages the students of Oklahoma to read books of literary quality. Students in grades 3-5 who have read or listened to at least 3 titles from the masterlist are eligible to vote for the Children's Sequoyah Book Award. The books on the masterlist are selected by the Sequoyah Reading Teams. Criteria for selections include: published three years prior to the award date, author lives in the United States, originality, literary quality, interest, appeal, and developmentally appropriate for the age level.
With this award, Oklahoma honors the Native American leader Sequoyah for his unique achievement in creating the Cherokee syllabary. Sequoyah chose eighty-five symbols to represent all spoken sounds of the Cherokee language. In so doing, he created a way to preserve his people's language and culture.
