Vision screenings scheduled to take place at Spring Creek, March 1-3

All public school districts in Oklahoma are required to report to the State Department of Education the number of Kindergarten, first and third grade students who submitted certification of a completed vision screening, and also the number of students who received a comprehensive eye examination from an optometrist or ophthalmologist. To comply with state law and provide an additional service to students, Broken Arrow Public Schools provides students in Pre-K through eighth grade with a free vision screening. Spring Creek Elementary School vision screening has been scheduled for March 1, 2, and 3.

Vizavance, formerly known as Prevent Blindness Oklahoma, is a nonprofit entity in Oklahoma that supports school districts and parents in providing mandated screening for students. The screeners provided by Vizavance have completed approved vision screening training from the state of Oklahoma, and depending upon the grade level, screening will be conducted using a vision screening camera or a vision chart. Vizavance’s primary goal is to advance children’s education through vision, and by offering vision screenings to Oklahoma’s school children, the organization helps identify vision issues that, if never identified, could seriously hamper a child’s ability to succeed academically.

If you have questions regarding the screening, please contact your child’s health office staff, or if you would like for your student to opt out of the screening, please provide a written statement to the health office prior to the screening day.
