BAHS accepting applications for Career Exploration Program for 2019 spring semester

The Career Exploration Program (CEP) at Broken Arrow High School gives senior students an authentic learning experience in the professional world through internships at businesses across Broken Arrow. BAHS’ College and Career Center is currently accepting applications for the 2019 spring semester.

“Our CEP students are finding valuable experiences in their internships,” said Kristin Carr, BAHS College and Career counselor and CEP coordinator. “This program offers an opportunity that may solidify their career plans, giving them an advantage over their classmates when applying to college programs or future jobs.”

Last year, students interned at the Broken Arrow Police Department, St. John Broken Arrow, various elementary and middle schools within the district, vet clinics, engineering firms and more.

By partnering with businesses in the community, the program broadens students’ knowledge base about the business world, enabling them to hone their talents, goals, abilities and interests. Students spend part of their day at a business placement under adult supervision, completing real-world projects and tasks associated with that profession.

“Through CEP, students are provided with an overview of their chosen career area, as well as familiarized with the professional and decision-making processes of that profession,” Carr said.

In addition, CEP’s classroom work focuses on professional writing, interviewing, resume building and other skills needed for transitioning from high school to post-graduate opportunities.

CEP students earn academic credit as they would for any traditional class and are able to explore career areas before investing time and money in college courses and trade schools.
