| Basic Programs Department encompasses a variety of areas that are designed to enhance learning for children that are having a difficult time achieving their academic goals. These programs include: Title I that supplements reading and mathematics; Title II that utilizes Literacy Coaches; Title III, which is our ELL program that has our regional and newcomer center for our students with limited English; Title VI/JOM, which is our Native American programs that supplement mathematics, and our Special Services center which enhances learning with individualized education plans for our students with specific learning difficulties. These programs along with their coordinators and teachers provide a beneficial service to the students at Broken Arrow Public Schools.
Title VII Program
Title VII is a federally funded program through the Department of Education operating within the Office of Indian Education in Washington, D.C. Broken Arrow Public Schools administer the program for this school district. All students of Native American descent (with or without proof) are eligible. Income levels have nothing to do with this federal program.
Johnson O’Malley Program (J.O.M.)
J.O.M. is a federally funded program through the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Subcontracts are through the Muskogee (Creek) Nation’s Education Department. Broken Arrow Public Schools administer the program for this school district. All students who have a Certificate Degree of Indian Blood card (CDIB) or whose parent(s) hold a CDIB card are eligible. Income levels have nothing to do with this federal program.
Title III
The English Language Learner Program at Broken Arrow Public Schools provides services to facilitate English literacy, communication and academic proficiency for students whose native language is not English. The goals of the program are to use English to communicate in social settings and to use English to achieve academically in all content areas. At the elementary level there is a Newcomer Center, four Regional Centers and sheltered instruction classes. Newcomer classes and sheltered instruction classes are offered at the middle school level. Newcomer classes, ELL English classes and sheltered instruction classes are offered at the high school level.
Special Services
The Special Services Center is housed at 112 North Main. This is the home of our School Psychologists, Basic Service Curriculum Coordinator, Compliance Coordinators and all of our Special Education Department Chairs. We provide specialized service to approximately 2,400 students with special needs. This department is a wealth of information on children with special needs.
