2009-2010 Enrollment
Broken Arrow Public Schools recognizes the many advantages of early access to the educational process. Children who obtain this early exposure are as a group better equipped to excel when they start kindergarten. We strongly encourage all our parents to consider the four-year-old program for their children.
Enrollment for the 2009-2010 Four-Year-Old Program will be for the following dates and times. All enrollment will be held at Central On Main, formerly Central Middle School, in the cafeteria (MAP). The doors are located on the south side of the building on College Street. Designated schools will enroll on the following days:

What is the Four-Year-Old Program? It is a program that serves children who will be 4 years of age on or before September 1, 2008, and legally reside within the Broken Arrow Public Schools district. It operates on a half day basis. The approximate time frame for the four-year-old program is 8:55 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. until 3:40 p.m. daily. When you initially enroll, you may request participation in either the morning or in the afternoon but not both. We will attempt to accommodate your wishes. NO OUT-OF-DISTRICT TRANSFERS TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM WILL BE CONSIDERED.
Will this program be offered at all elementary schools?
NO. At this time, it will be held at Arrow Springs Elementary, Country Lane Elementary, Indian Springs Elementary, Liberty Elementary, Park Lane Elementary, Spring Creek Elementary (they will have two classes) Vandever Elementary, Westwood Elementary and Wolf Creek. Designating which schools have the required space available is not as easy as you might think. As anyone who lives in Broken Arrow knows, we are a rapidly growing school district. Additionally, our population is relocating around the district to new residences at an unprecedented rate. Our first priority is to locate each and every Kindergarten and older student at the school site that serves their attendance zone. Once we are fairly confident of our projections for the next school year, we can then review these numbers at each site to see if there is a spare classroom that could serve our four year old students.
What does this mean?
This program will be offered only at those school sites where classroom space is available. You will be able to review the schools that will offer a four year old program prior to enrollment. From this list, you will determine which school location will best serve your needs. If the school you select is not your home school, it will not matter as your child will be given an automatic in-district transfer effective for one year which will permit your child to attend. Enrollment will be on a first come, first served basis until available space at that site is filled.
How does the Waiting List work?
Once a site is full we take names and place them on a waiting list. If someone should fail to attend or withdrawal from the program we will take a name from the waiting list in the order they were placed and fill the spot.
Cost of Program: This is a State funded program and is FREE to our parents.
Transportation: If your child will attend the school in your attendance zone, transportation is only available one way. If your child is to be served in the morning, then they may be eligible to ride the bus to school but it will be the parents’ responsibility to pick the child up at 11:30 a.m. If your child will be served in the afternoon, then you must bring the child to school. Depending on where you reside, your child may be eligible to ride the bus home. All children on temporary transfers must provide transportation both to and from school.
Frequently Asked Questions
Question: If I accept a placement at one school site, can I also be on a waiting list for another school site?
Answer: No. We have tried this in the past and at best it did not work well. Our main mission is to enroll children into school. That alone is an awesome task. As most changes and openings take place in August, our busiest time of year, it is simply impossible to do this job well.
Question: Can I change school sites after already being placed?
Answer: Yes, but be very careful. Understand that you are giving away your guaranteed placement. You will then be placed at the bottom of any waiting list of the school you select. There is no guarantee that you will receive another placement.
Question: My child is 5 years old. Can I place him in the four-year-old program?
Answer: No. If your child is 5 on or before Septermber 1, 2008, the correct placement is Kindergarten. The only exception is if you child was in the four-year-old program this year and is being retained or if your child is placed as a condition of their IEP.
Question: I am a working parent. I cannot be there to enroll my child. Can I send a friend to enroll my child?
Answer: Yes, but you will need to fill out and sign all the required paperwork, and give them to your friend. Your friend can act in your place. Remember that you friend will need the original birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residence.
