Communication with all parts of the community is an important part of education. The Communications Department does so with publications, including the community newsletter Arrowpoint, as well as brochures and other information. Also, the department encompasses video technology, school volunteers, Partners In Education, Cox Cable Channel 20 BATV, web design and public relations. An increase in web and internet communication is a definite plus for keeping a constant stream of commuinication with parents and patrons.

PROGRAMS

VIDEO PRODUCTION: This award-winning department maintains BATV, Broken Arrow's new educational channel on Cox Cable Channel 20. The Video Production department produces educational programming and informational scripts on the 24-hour-a-day channel. Along with its television production responsibilities, members of the department assist with video announcements each morning at the Senior High School and "Tiger TV," a program produced by Senior High students that airs on Channel 20. The department also creates videos of varying lengths about district programs, people and events, and is frequently requested to assist with community-wide projects. PARTNERS IN EDUCATION/VOLUNTEERS IN EDUCATION: The Communications Department also houses the Partners In Education and Volunteers In Education programs. Partners In Education, or PIE, is where a school is "adopted" by a business and they exchange resources like personnel, technology and materials. The PIE website can be viewed HERE. Volunteers In Education are parents, citizens and friends of BAPS who volunteer their time to a child's education by helping out at area school sites. The Volunteers web site can be viewed HERE.

PUBLICATIONS: Arrowpoint, which began publication in 1976, is distributed quarterly to all residents and businesses in Broken Arrow and mailed to addresses throughout the state and nation. It features photographs and articles specifically of interest to parents and members of the Broken Arrow school community. It highlights the efforts and accomplishments of students and staff, as well as programs of the school district. It is also available as an online magazine. BAPS W.I.N.S., a weekly publication for staff members, focuses on upcoming events and professional development opportunities. W.I.N.S. is now available on the district's staff home page. Other publications include brochures about every aspect of school life from Fine Arts to the Volunteers in Education Program. Publications have received numerous Awards of Excellence from the Oklahoma School Public Relations Association.

WEB DESIGN: In keeping with today's technologically-advanced workplace, Broken Arrow Public Schools' award-winning website offers a vast amount of resource material and up-to-date information about school closings, meetings, important dates and many vital links for parents and patrons of the community.
