Denton sworn in on Board, Whelpley continues as president

Jerry Denton has been sworn in to a five-year term of office as the new Zone 5 Representative on the Broken Arrow Board of Education.

Denton received the Oath of Office and Loyalty Oath from Board of Education Deputy Clerk Terry Stover at the Feb. 15 Special Meeting of the  Board of Education (held at the Education Service South).

Denton was the only candidate to file for the Board seat that had previously been held by Stephanie Updike, who did not seek re-election.

Denton, who works as a manager for a company that provides solutions to health care facilities, is himself a Broken Arrow High School graduate.  In addition to serving in the United States Navy, he is also a graduate of the University of Phoenix.  He and his wife are proud parents of two current Broken Arrow Public Schools students.

The Broken Arrow Board of Education is a five-member Board from five different zones of representation in the School District.  Each year, one of the Board seats is up for election to a five-year term of office.  Zone 5 is located primarily in the Central and Northeast portions of the School District. A complete map showing all of the Broken Arrow Board zones is available on the School District website at www.baschools.org through the “Board of Education” link.

In addition to officially seating Denton as Zone 5 Representative, the Board also completed its annual reorganization of offices.  Sharon Whelpley, Zone 2 Representative, will continue to serve as President.  Shari Wilkins, Zone 3 Representative, will remain Vice-President.  Zone 4 Representative Cheryl Kelly will serve as Clerk.  Zone 1 Representative Terry Stover will continue as the Deputy Clerk.
