BAHS varsity cheerleaders win National Championship

The Broken Arrow High School Varsity Cheerleading team won the national championship, taking top honors in the Varsity Coed School Advanced Division at the American Cheer Power National Cheerleading competition held in San Antonio, Texas.

Broken Arrow Public Schools District Spirit Coordinator Mary Fowler said the team delivered a very difficult routine in an exceptional way in the finals to take home the crown.

“This was the hardest ‘Nationals’ routine we have ever presented,” Fowler explained.  “To come away with the national championship is a credit to countless hours of practice and great dedication.”

Team members of the national champions BAHS Varsity Cheer squad include the following: Seniors- Taylor Brown, Ashley Daignault, Taylor Hillenburg (Captain), Amber Hoopert (Co-Captain), Morgan Johnson, Karah Land, Kate Little (Co-Captain), Alyssa Mills, Maddie Pace (Co-Captain), Alexis Reid, and Chelsey Stanart;

Juniors- Leslie Armstrong, Brooke Decker, Becca Fulps, Brandi Haney, Tiffany Hoffman, Caitie Kelly, Madison Makin, Alexis Nicka, Tyler Owen, Brianna Pellersels, Kirsten Poindexter, Shelby Summers, and Kara Wisner;

Sophomores- Tierra Fultz, Melanie Jean, Alyssa Malagani, Catelina Moore, Kelsey Mosburg, and Sarah Roberts;

Freshmen- Sydney Bouma, Carly Ford, Aspen Gibson, Taylor Love, Marigrace Montgomery, and Emily Wilkerson;

Spotters- Landon Church, Dan Fair, Adam Ford, Steven Hopper, Margot Johnson, Ryan Ramler, Brady Robinson, Trey Stephens, and Will Woffard

Fowler also praised coaches Krista Armstrong and Amy Howe along with trainer Jim Bui.

Fowler said the championship culminates a stellar year for the team.

“This has been a fantastic year; I have great kids,” she said.  “These students are talented, dedicated, and entertaining.  I love these kids and will miss this team, but they will forever be in my heart.”

The cheerleading national championship is the fifth in BAHS school history.
