2008 BAHS ACT scores among highest in school history

The Broken Arrow High School graduating class of 2008 has posted Broken Arrow's third highest composite ACT score in at least 15 years.  The average composite ACT for BAHS for 2008 was 22.0 according to figures released by the national office of the ACT.

For purposes of comparison, the average composite ACT score for the national high school graduating class of 2008 was 21.1 while the average ACT composite score for 2008 graduating seniors from the state of Oklahoma was 20.7.

"The average ACT score for our 2008 seniors is much higher for Broken Arrow than the state and national averages, which is a testament to the instruction being provided for continuing higher education," Broken Arrow Public Schools Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, Dr. Brian Beagles said.  "The outcome of this ACT report reflects well on the excellence of the faculty and staff at each BAPS school site and to the district's focus on curriculum and instruction."

Broken Arrow High School’s average Math score of 21.4 on the ACT for the Class of 2008 was the highest in school history.

Dr. Beagles said the district continues to look for ways to increase participation (34 more BAHS seniors took the ACT in 2008 than in 2007) on the ACT while keeping ACT scores on an upward trend.

"We continue to look for ways to enhance preparation and ultimately results for our students.  This past year, was our first for our Community Education program to include ACT in its offerings and opportunities.  Many students took advantage of this, and we are pleased to be making ACT prep offerings available again this year through this new avenue.”

The ACT college entry exam consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading, and science. Each test is scored on a scale of 1-36 with a student's composite score being the average of the four test scores.  ACT scores are accepted by virtually all U.S. colleges and universities.

“We as a district will continue to focus on improving our students’ ACT scores because success on the ACT translates into higher education opportunities and makes a positive impact on parents' bank accounts as evidenced by the approximately $4-million in scholarships earned by the BAHS Class of 2008."

The period of 2004-to-2008 marks the top five year period for composite annual ACT scores (scoring average) in the history of Broken Arrow High School.
