Section 10.0- Student Activities

10.12 Student Activities Program Disciplinary Review Committee

Disciplinary action against a student which affects a student's participation in a student extra-curricular activities program shall be the responsibility of the activity sponsor and building principal or principal's designee.

The right of appeal to the Board of Education in cases involving student suspension does not extend to a suspension from a student extra-curricular activities program or other disciplinary action affecting participation in an extra-curricular activities program.

Authorization is given for a Student Activities Program Disciplinary Review Committee to be established in each secondary school to serve as a review panel for disciplinary action affecting a student's participation in extra-curricular activities programs.

The Committee shall consist of from three to five staff members, appointed annually by the building principal. The Committee shall meet and hear the respective positions of the student and the principal and shall make a recommendation, in writing, to the principal. After due consideration of the Committee's recommendation, the building principal shall either affirm, modify or rescind his suspension or other disciplinary action against the student with regard to a student extra-curricular activities program.

The procedures to be utilized by the Student Activities Program Review Committee under this policy and the method of selecting the Committee members shall be developed by the building principal and reduced to writing.

The final decision with regard to disciplinary action against a student which affects a student's participation in a student extra-curricular activities program shall be forwarded by the building principal to the Superintendent of Schools for informational purposes only.
