11.3 Conflict of Interest (School Employees)
Employees of the Board of Education will not engage in or have a financial interest in any activity that raises a question of conflict of interest with their duties and responsibilities as members of the school staff. No employee of the school district or any member of the Board of Education shall directly or indirectly solicit, receive, accept or agree to receive any gratuities, money, favors, goods, present, reward or anything of monetary value from parties which are contractors, potential contractors, or parties to subagreements with the school district, or which will have the effect to influence his or her decision on any question, matter, cause or proceeding with the school district. An unsolicited gift or item of nominal intrinsic value shall not be considered to be in violation of this policy. Neither the facilities, the school name, the staff, the students of the school district, school system, nor any part thereof shall be employed in any manner for commercial purposes, or promoting the interests of any commercial or other non-school agency or organization. Action of school district employees in promoting private business interests, whether among students, staff or patrons, is considered a commercial activity and is not authorized during the school day or on school property. Rental of school facilities by employees for the purpose of conducting camps, clinics, or activities for which students are charged tuition or fee for participation shall be limited to programs which are directly-related to a recognized school academic or activity program and which teach skills used in the school-district program. Rental of facilities by employees for such school-related activities shall be considered educational programs and not subject to classification as a commercial activity. The Superintendent of Schools has authority to authorize tuition-financed or fee programs which comply with provisions of this policy.
