The Broken Arrow School District is in the 6th year of a successful partnership with the Broken Arrow Police Department to provide School Resource Officers for each of itÕs campuses.

| 6th Grade Lessons
Surviving Middle School—A lesson on the differences in schools and personnel. How to deal with peer pressure and how to be ready for middle school classes. Personal Safety—A lesson on how to protect yourself and what to do if you feel unsafe. A review of school rules, laws and student rights. Self-Esteem—A lesson on self-esteem and how a personÕs actions affect anotherÕs self-esteem. Conflict Resolution—The students will learn ways to resolve and address problems by using non-violent means. Graffiti/Vandalism—A discussion on the destructive nature of graffiti and vandalism and how both may be signs of drug and/or gang activity. Child Abuse—The students will learn what to do if they or a friend are being abused. Smoking—The students will learn the dangers of smoking. Tobacco laws will be discussed. Drug Abuse—A discussion about the harmful effects that abuse of substances has on the body. |
7th Grade Lessons
Goals—Understanding the need for goal-setting and how to establish long-term goals in life. Cultural Sensitivity—To familiarize students with cultural differences and their impact on others. Communication—The student body will learn how to communicate well and how body language is read. Gangs—The student will learn how to respond to gang pressure and how the school will respond to gangs. Grief—A discussion on grief and how to deal with the changes they experience. Teenage Violence—A discussion on teen violence, what to do if you become a victim and where to go for help. How To Help A Friend In Crisis—The students will learn what to do if they have a friend in need and who to talk to about it. Drug Abuse—The students will discuss the effects of drug addiction and the stages of drug abuse. |
8th Grade Lessons
Cost of Crime—The students will learn how the cost of crimes burden the rest of society. Eyewitness to a Crime—The video "Eyewitness to a Crime" will be shown. Students will participate in a hands-on exercise. Driving Under the Influence—The video, "The Brandon Story" will be shown and discussed. Zero Tolerance law will be discussed. Depression—The students will learn the signs of depression and how to improve their feelings. Personal Safety—The students will learn what to do when faced with unsafe situations. Drug Abuse—A discussion on drugs and how they can affect oneÕs life and family. Preparing for College—The students will learn how important the next four years of school are. Suicide—A discussion on suicide. The students will learn who to talk to if they or a friend are thinking about harming themselves. |

Faculty Each SRO is available to conduct faculty in-service presentations. Some topics of interest for these presentations may include: Violence in the Workplace—includes a 30 minute video tape and discussion.
